Summer Arts is a series of mostly inter generatational hands ons visual arts making workshops in New York City. It is administered by artist and community teaching artist Tyshawn Henry (She/Her)
Tyshawn received a City Artist Corps grant in 2021 from the City of New York. The purpose was to bring engaging arts experiences to our neighborhoods. After a series of painting events in a local park, feedback from neighbors was they wanted to participate. Summer Arts brings arts making opportunities to New York City residents.
The objective is to provide free access and experience of hands on arts making experiences in our communities. Fourteen to 16 events are planned over a course of seven weeks. They will take place in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten Island.
